Women win big over Coe in swimming

Freshman Emma Novak was one of four individual double winners for Augustana as the Vikings beat Coe 182-53 on Friday, January 11 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Vikings won 12 of 13 events during a 182-53 non-conference women's swimming & diving victory against Coe on Friday, January 11 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. With the victory, Augustana moves to 3-0 on the season.

Four Vikings claimed individual double victories during the meet, which was Augustana's first competition since beating Loras in a dual meet on December 7.   Freshman Emma Novak (Eden Prairie HS, Eden Prairie, Minn.) won the 1000 freestyle in 11:26.52 and took the 100 butterfly in 1:04.48. Senior Molly Clennon (Benet Academy, Naperville, Ill.) grabbed the 200 freestyle (2:06.06) and the 500 freestyle (5:39.71). Junior Hillary Ferguson (Waubonsie Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) was victorious in the 50 freestyle (:25.55) and the 100 freestyle (:57.68). Senior Emma Regnier (Grayslake North HS, Lake Villa, Ill.) won the 200 individual medley in 2:25.25 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.65. Regnier was second in the 100 butterfly in 1:04.78.  

Junior Helen Myers (Pecatonica HS, Rock City, Ill.) won the one meter diving event with 213.30 points and took second in the three meter diving with 191.70 points. Sophomore Laura Pemberton (Freemont HS, Freemont, Neb.) was first in the 100 backstroke in 1:11.39 and third in the 200 freestyle in 2:14.28.  

The 200 medley relay team of Pemberton, freshman Jordan Johnson (Appleton North HS, Appleton, Wis.), junior Danna Jensen (Dundee Crown HS, Algonquin, Ill.) and Jamie Graf won with a time of 2:03.59. The 200 freestyle relay squad of senior Alexandra Piper (Coal City HS, Coal City, Ill.), Clennon, Novak and Ferguson ended the meet with a 1:46.56 victory.  

Piper was second in the 50 freestyle (:26.65) and the 100 freestyle (:58.76). Senior Emily Timmons (West Aurora HS, North Aurora, Ill.) finished second in the 200 individual medley (2:26.86) and third in the 500 freestyle (5:45.47). Johnson took second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:15.87.  

Sophomore Beth Cole (Muscatine HS, Muscatine, Iowa) placed second in the 100 backstroke (1:12.35). Graf was third in the 100 freestyle in 1:00.15. Junior Erin Doty (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.) placed third in the 1000 freestyle in 12:06.60. Junior Katie Pittman (Mahomet-Seymour HS, Mahomet, Ill.) was third in the 200 individual medley (2:33.07) and freshman Kristin Molloy (Buffalo Grove HS, Buffalo Grove, Ill.) was third in the 100 backstroke in 1:14.46. Freshman Adelia Clark (Linn Mar HS, Marion, Iowa) placed third in the three meter diving with 180.85 points.
