Men's swimming moves to 3-0 with win at Coe

Senior Chris Greaves was a double winner in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke as Augustana defeated Coe 183-29 on Friday, January 11 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Showing no ill-effects of a long lay-off due to the Christmas holiday, Augustana won every event during a 183-29 victory over Coe in men's swimming and diving on Friday, January 11 in Cedar Rapids. The Vikings of head coach Scott Johannsen moved to 3-0 with the win.

Four Augustana swimmers posted individual double victories during the meet. Junior Daniel Hinck (Harlem HS, Loves Park, Ill.) won the 200 freestyle in 1:54.48 and the 100 freestyle in :49.92. Senior Chris Greaves (Morris HS, Morris, Ill.) picked up wins in the 50 freestyle (:22.96) and the 100 backstroke (1:00.82). Sophomore Aaron Holt (Mount Vernon HS, Mount Vernon, Ill.) won the 200 individual medley in 2:08.22 and the 100 butterfly in :57.56. Sophomore Josh Wielenga (School Environmental Study, Apple Valley, Minn.) took the one meter diving event with 202.95 points and captured the three meter board with 191.25 points.  

Sophomore Alex Putz (Oak Forest HS, Oak Forest, Ill.) won the 1000 freestyle in 11:35.99 while freshman Felipe Hernandez (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) took the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.44 and freshman David Sommers (Westlake HS, Thousand Oaks, Calif.) won the 500 freestyle in 5:16.15. Putz was also third in the 100 butterfly in 1:00.75 and Hernandez claimed second in the 200 individual medley in 2:12.91.  

The 200 medley relay team of freshman Kyle Johnson (Shadow Mountain HS, Phoenix, Ariz.), Hernandez, Sommers and Greaves started the meet off with a win in a time of 1:43.93. The 200 freestyle relay unit of Hinck, freshman Adam Bernardi (Rockford Boylan HS, Belvidere, Ill.), freshman Austin Small (Morris HS, Morris, Ill.) and Reppy closed out the meet with a 1:34.23 victory.  

Reppy took second in the 200 freestyle 91:56.46) and second in the 500 freestyle (5:16.19). Small was second in the 1000 freestyle (11:38.66) and second in the 100 backstroke (1:01.63). Johnson was third in both the 1000 freestyle (11:59.63) and 100 backstroke (1:02.43). Bernardi placed second in the 100 butterfly in :59.91 and third in the 200 individual medley in 2:13.42.  

Sophomore Michael Duy (Marmion Academy, Aurora, Ill.) was third in the 200 freestyle in 2:02.33 and third in the 500 freestyle in 5:24.58. Sophomore Timothy Michaels (Pella HS, Pella, Iowa) finished second in the 100 freestyle (:52.47) and third in the 50 freestyle (:24.20). Junior Jasen Hengst (Bettendorf HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) was third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:08.51.
