Nine event winners key victory over Loras

Senior Hillary Ferguson won the 50 freestyle and was second in the 100 freestyle in Augustana's 143-96 victory over Loras on Friday, December 7 in the Carver Pool. She also anchored the 200 freestyle relay team to victory.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Fueled by victories in nine of the 13 events, Augustana moved its record to 2-0 with a convincing 143-96 dual meet victory over Loras on Friday, December 6 in the Carver Pool. The Vikings placed behind the Duhawks in the Pioneer Classic last weekend in Grinnell, Iowa but handled the head-to-head meeting in the last competition before Christmas for head coach Scott Johannsen's team.

Senior Emma Regnier (Grayslake North HS, Lake Villa, Ill.) was the lone individual double winner for the Vikings as she took the 100 butterfly in :56.86 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.71. She was also second in the 200 individual medley in 2:24.17.

Senior Molly Clennon (Benet Academy, Naperville, Ill.) won the 200 freestyle in 2:06.35 and placed second in the 500 freestyle in 5:38.78.  She also contributed the third leg to the victorious 200 freestyle relay unit that won with a time of 1:44.44. Joining Clennon on that team was senior Alexandra Piper (Coal City HS, Coal City, Ill.), freshman Emma Novak (Eden Prairie HS, Eden Prairie, Minn.) and junior Hillary Ferguson (Waubonsie Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.).

Piper won the 100 freestyle in :56.86 and was second in the 50 freestyle in :26.17. Ferguson won the 50 freestyle in :25.83 and placed second in the 100 freestyle in :57.72.  Novak won the 200 individual medley in 2:19.22 and was second in the 100 butterfly in 1:03.62.

Freshman Adelia Clark (Linn Mar HS, Marion, Iowa) won the one meter diving with 201.85 points and was second in the three meter with 185.35. Junior Helen Myers (Pecatonica HS, Rock City, Ill.) took the one meter diving with 223.70 points and was second off the one meter board with 191.50 points. Freshman Megan McGregor (Lincoln-Way East HS, Mokena, Ill.) placed third in both the one (160.15) and three meter (144.75) events.

The 200 relay team of sophomore Laura Pemberton (Fremont HS, Fremont, Neb.), senior Emily Timmons (West Aurora HS, North Aurora, Ill.), Jamie Graf and junior Katie Pittman (Mahomet-Seymour HS, Mahomet, Ill.) placed third in 2:04.40.  Timmons was second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:16.75 and fourth in the 1000 freestyle in 11:54.41.  Graf was fourth in the 200 freestyle in 2:10.41.

Junior Erin Doty (Oswego HS, Oswego, Ill.) finished third in the 1000 freestyle in 11:51.58 and fourth in the 500 freestyle in 5:45.19. Senior Hollyann Kabbe (Fenton HS, Bensenville, Ill.) placed fourth in the 100 backstroke in 1:09.76.

Coach Scott Johannsen's Vikings are now idle until a January 11 dual meet against Coe in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
