Men's soccer falls on "Senior Day"

Kevin Wyrostek was one of four senior Augustana men's soccer players who took the field at Thorson-Lucken Field for the final time on Saturday in a 2-0 loss to North Central.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - North Central held a 25-10 advantage in shots and defeated Augustana 2-0 in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin men's soccer action on Saturday, October 20 at Thorson-Lucken Field. The match was Senior Day for the Vikings and four seniors who played their last match at home.

Jason Beckus (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.), Kevin Wyrostek (Naperville North HS, Naperville, Ill.), Nick Wolfe (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) and John McSpadden (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) formed the quartet of Augustana players making their final home appearance.

Lucas Habeeb got North Central on the board midway through the first half (23:46) when he scored a goal off an assist from Ricardo Serrano. The first half ended with the Cardinals ahead 1-0 and holding a whopping 14-1 advantage in shots. Augustana sophomore goalkeeper Brett Johnson (Zion-Benton HS, Beach Park, Ill.) helped keep his team in the game by recording six saves. He would finish the game with a total of seven.

North Central made it 2-0 at the 64:43 mark with a goal by Ryan Johnson and that lead held up.

The Vikings did manage to launch nine shots in the second half and took four corner kicks in the final 45 minutes of play. Beckus and junior Matt Shipon (South Elgin HS, Elgin, Ill.) each had three shots on the day.

Augustana is now 6-7-3 overall and 2-2-1 in the CCIW while North Central moved to 10-6-0 and 3-3-0.
