Vikings ranked fifth in Central Region

Kerri Skotnicki (32) and Maggie Hoscheit (7) have been leaders of an Augustana defense that's been integral to the team's 12-3 start. The Vikings are ranked fifth in the week's NSCAA/Continental Tire Central Region poll.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - With seven wins in its last eight matches, Coach Scott Mejia's Augustana soccer team finds itself in a tie for fifth place in this week's NSCAA/Continental Tire Central Region poll. The poll was released Tuesday, a day before the Vikings moved to 12-3 on the year with a 4-2 win at Wartburg, the third-ranked team in the North Region.

Washington University (11-1-1) leads this week's Central Region poll, followed by 15-0-1 Aurora and 12-2-2 Wheaton, to whom the Vikings pay a visit on October 24. The University of Chicago (9-4) sits in fourth, followed by Augustana and Alma (10-3-2), who are tied for fifth.

In addition to their win over Wartburg, the Vikings own a victory over the North Region's second-ranked team, Loras.

Augustana currently leads the CCIW with a 4-0 mark, a half game ahead of second-place Wheaton and a game up on third-place Illinois Wesleyan. The Vikings have a win in hand over the Titans. Augustana plays its final regular season match at Thorson-Lucken Field Saturday, October 20 against North Central at 1:00 p.m. The Vikings, who are unbeaten on the road this season, wrap up regular season play with CCIW dates at Wheaton and Elmhurst (October 27).
