Augie Choice

There's nothing like challenging yourself outside the classroom to make all of your course work come together. With Augie Choice, you add value to your education by working with faculty mentors on laboratory research, service-learning projects, internships, conference presentations and overseas study. And while these are valuable experiences, expenses related to travel and materials for experiential learning often mean additional costs.

Through Augie Choice, you can receive up to $2,000 to subsidize international study, research or service-learning during your junior or senior year. The money can be used to fund a wide range of projects and programs, including, for example: airfare and fees for international study, a stipend for an otherwise unpaid summer internship, materials for a service-learning or research project, or travel and registration to present research at a national conference. The first recipients of Augie Choice funding will be the members of the Class of 2012 during their junior year (2010-11 academic year).

Augie Choice originated with Thomas Williams '06, who began working through details of the program while he was a student member of Augustana's Educational Policies Committee. Williams participated in a service project in Mexico during his Augustana years, and thought a program like Augie Choice could put experiences such as his well within the reach of other students. According to Williams, "Augustana provides students with a fertile environment to explore new ideas. Augie Choice provides the opportunity to put these ideas into action."
