Leazer among nation's leaders in aces, points

Sophomore Emily Leazer ranks third in the nation in service aces per set and 26th in points per set according to the latest NCAA Division III statistical report.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill.-Augustana outside hitter Emily Leazer (St. Viator HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) ranks third in the nation in service aces per set according to the latest NCAA Division III statistical report. Her performance has helped the Vikings to a team ranking of 14th in the same category. Leazer also ranks 26th nationally in points per set, a combination of kills, aces and blocks.

With 74 aces in 70 sets - an average of 1.06 - through Augustana's first 20 matches, Leazer ranked behind only Jillian Escobar of Brooklyn (1.13) and Jelena Markovic of Centenary (1.12) in all of Division III. She is also on pace to obliterate the school single-season record of 0.63, set by Mandy Murray in 2001. Earlier this year, Leazer tied the Augustana single-match record with nine aces against Alverno and against Knox on the same day, she recorded eight, tied for fourth most in school history. Just a sophomore, she has already moved into Augustana's top 10 in career aces.

As a team, the Vikings recorded 209 aces in their first 70 sets this season, ranking 14th in the nation.

In addition to aces, Leazer also leads the Vikings in kills. Through 70 sets, she had recorded 227 and when combined with seven solo blocks, 14 block assists and her 74 aces, she had accounted for 4.50 points per set, ranking 26th in the nation.
