Tyler Cowherd named Player of the Week

Augustana junior goalkeeper Tyler Cowherd (Bettendorf HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) has been named the "Defensive Player of the Week" for men's soccer in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin, it was announced today. Cowherd is the first Viking to win the honor in men's soccer this season.
He put together a tremendous outing in Augustana's 1-1 tie in double overtime against North Park on Saturday, October 6 at Thorson-Luken Field. He had five saves in the match, including two great efforts in the second overtime that prevented game-winning goals by North Park. In the match the Vikings were outshot by the visitors by a 10-5 margin.
Cowherd has logged a total of 560 minutes this season and has drawn five starts. He has given up a total of 12 goals with five of those coming in one match against Central of Iowa early in the season (September 4). He has a goals-against-average of 1.93 and has recorded a total of 22 saves. His win-loss record is 2-3-1 on the year and he has one shutout.
Cowherd is the son of Sid and Kari Cowherd of Bettendorf, Iowa and is a finance and Spanish major.
