Vikings tie North Park and stay unbeaten in CCIW

Two major factors in the Vikings' 1-1 double overtime tie with North Park on Saturday, October 6 are shown in action during the match. Grant Halter (with ball) scored the lone goal and Tyler Cowherd (background) came up with five saves, including two huge stops in the second overtime session.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - A goal by junior Grant Halter (Glenbard West HS, Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and some sterling goal keeping by junior Tyler Cowherd (Bettendorf HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) allowed Augustana to forge a 1-1 double overtime tie with North Park on Saturday, October 6 at Thorson-Lucken Field. After the 110 minute contest ended in a deadlock, the Vikings remained undefeated in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin at 1-0-1 and they are now 4-5-2 overall while North Park is 5-2-4 and 0-0-2.

Halter gave Augustana a 1-0 lead early in the second half (53:40) when he took a nice feed from junior Josh Bennett (Wheaton North HS, Winfield, Ill.) and scored his first goal of the season by beating North Park goalie Tim Ahlberg, who came out to challenge the play.

That lead stood until the 71:10 mark when North Park's Fred Sund scored off an assist from Markus Fodstad.

Cowherd came up with five saves in the game, including a pair of outstanding efforts in the second overtime session. He is now 2-3-1 on the season.

Augustana lost the statistical battle in terms of shots by a margin of 10-5 and the two teams tied in corner kicks with six apiece.

The Vikings will be in action again on Sunday, October 7 when they host Concordia-Moorhead at 1:00 p.m. at Thorson-Lucken Field.
