It was the second time this fall that Sawyer has been honored by the CCIW.
She had a fine weekend at the ITA Fall Regional Championship in St. Louis, Missouri as she advanced to the round of 16 in the singles bracket. She opened play with a 6-1; 6-0 victory over Lauren Drawbridge of Illinois Wesleyan and followed that with a 6-4; 6-4 win over Taylor Mahr of DePauw. Marcell made it all the way to the championship match before she was defeated.
Sawyer teamed with freshman Aileen MacDonald (Mundelein HS, Mundelein, Ill.) to go 1-1 in the doubles action at the ITA meet.
She was the "Player of the Week" on September 12 after she notched her 100th victory of her career. So far this year she is 13-2 overall in singles and has compiled an 8-5 record in doubles. She is 69-16 in her career at singles and 44-30 in doubles for a total record of 113-46. She currently ranks 14th on the career list at Augustana for overall victories with her 113 wins. This is the fifth time in her career that she has been selected as the "Player of the Week" in the CCIW. She won the award once as a freshman in 2010-11 and twice last year as a sophomore in 2011-12 as well as the two times she won it this season.
