Augustana fifth at Grinnell

Junior Kelly Farina finished tied for seventh Saturday at the Grinnell Invitational in Grinnell, Iowa. Farina's round of 83 helped Augustana to a fifth-place team finish.

GRINNELL, Iowa- Junior Kelly Farina (Normal West HS, Bloomington, Ill.) carded an 83 Saturday to tie for seventh place at the Grinnell Invitational. Augustana finished fifth in the seven-team event, which was won by the host Pioneers.

After Farina, the Viking contingent included junior Kelly Olson (Prairie Ridge HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.), who shot an 86 to tie for 13th, and freshman Caitlin Doherty (Mother McAuley HS, Oak Lawn, Ill.) and junior Katelyn Lazar (Williamsville HS, Sherman, Ill.), who each shot a 90 to tie for 25th. Senior Morgan Wilkinson (Westmont HS, Westmont, Ill.) carded a 91 to tie for 27th and sophomore Megan Scott (York HS, Villa Park, Ill.) rounded things out for Augustana with a 26th-place round of 101.

Although William Penn had the top two individual finishers in Courtney Kronmuller (76) and Demi Cortez (78), the Lady Statesmen wound up tied with Grinnell in the team standings with a collective round of 326. The squads played a one-hole playoff, with the Pioneers winning by a stroke. Mt. Mercy (339) finished third, followed by Monmouth (346), Augustana (349), Illinois College (378) and Knox (407).

Coach Ron Standley's Vikings now prepare for the three-round CCIW Championship scheduled for Thursday through Saturday, October 4-6, at Meadowbrook Country Club in Racine, Wisconsin.
