Vikings move to 13-4 after beating Concordia

Senior Sarah Williams and the Augustana Vikings moved to 13-4 on the season after beating Concordia 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in River-Forest, Illinois.

RIVER FOREST, Illinois - Augustana split a pair of matches at the Concordia Triangular on Saturday, September 29 in River Forest, Illinois. Third year head coach Jamie Walters' team lost to Edgewood 3-0 (25-17; 25-15; 25-18) in the first match of the day before rebounding with a 3-1 (25-18; 25-22; 23-25; 25-13) win over host Concordia in the nightcap.

The Vikings are now 13-4 on the season and will host North Central on Tuesday, October 2 at the Carver Center at 7:00 p.m.

EDGEWOOD 3, AUGUSTANA 0 (25-17; 25-15; 25-18)

Augustana fell 3-0 to the Eagles, losing by set scores of 25-17; 25-15 and 25-18. Freshman Martha Murray (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) led the team in kills with seven and in digs with six. Sophomore Dory Dudley (Tremont HS, Tremont, Ill.) had five kills and added four assisted blocks and one solo to the cause.

Sophomores Emily Leazer (St. Viator HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) and Samantha Kammerman (Sherrard HS, Milan, Ill.) each had four kills with Kammerman getting three assisted blocks and Leazer picking up five digs, four service aces and one assisted block. Senior Sarah Williams (Rockford Lutheran HS, Loves Park, Ill.) had three kills and three assisted blocks.

Freshman Jordan Hampel (Hilliard-Davidson HS, Hilliard, Ohio) led the team in setting assists with 18 while freshman Kylie Siebert (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) had five digs and two service aces.

AUGUSTANA 3, CONCORDIA 1 (25-18; 25-22; 23-25; 25-13)

The Vikings snapped a two match losing streak with a 3-1 victory over Concordia in the final match of the afternoon. The two pronged hitting attack of sophomore Emily Leazer (St. Viator HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) and freshman Martha Murray (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) carried Augustana in this one.

Leazer had 24 kills with six errors in 43 attempts for a .419 hitting percentage while Murray had 21 with eight errors in 48 attempts for a .271 mark. Leazer added five service aces, 11 digs and two blocking assists while Murray had 14 digs.

Freshman setter Jordan Hampel (Hilliard Davidson HS, Hilliard, Ohio) had 42 assists with three service aces and six digs. Freshman Kylie Siebert (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) chipped in with 14 digs, four service aces and five setting assists. Sophomore Dory Dudley (Tremont HS, Tremont, Ill.) knocked down four kills with three digs and two assisted blocks. Sophomore Samantha Kammerman (Sherrard HS, Milan, Ill.) had three kills with two digs, a service ace and an assisted block while senior Sarah Williams (Rockford Lutheran HS, Loves Park, Ill.) contributed two kills with three assisted blocks and two digs.
