Groselak ties for fifth at Elmhurst Invitational
|Sophomore Jake Groselak shot a one over par 73 and tied for fifth place individually at the Elmhurst Invitational on Thursday, September 27 at the Oak Brook Country Club in Oak Brook, Illinois. Groselak helped Augustana take fourth in the team standings with a score of 304.|
OAK BROOK, Ill.- Augustana sophomore Jake Groselak (Lemont HS, Lemont, Ill.) shot a one-over 73 Thursday to finish one stroke back in a tie for fifth at the Elmhurst Fall Invitational. Groselak's performance helped the Vikings finish tied for fourth in a 16-team field at Oak Brook Golf Club.
Groselak finished in a three-way tie for fifth, just a stroke behind four players who shared medalist honors. A pair of Augustana freshman, Alex Walter (Camp Point Central HS, Camp Point, Ill.) and David Ferlmann (Peoria Notre Dame HS, Dunlap, Ill.) each shot 76 to tie for 16th. Sophomore Grant Murphy (Dunlap HS, Peoria, Ill.) was tied for 33rd with a 79 and classmate Max Channon (Wheaton Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) tied for 51st with a round of 82.
Carthage, behind co-medalists Donnie Langland and Jarrett Simonson, shot a collective 294 to win the event by seven strokes over Dubuque and Wheaton, who tied for second at 301. Dubuque's Martin Odegard and Millikin's Chris Garcia also had rounds of 72 to share medalist honors. Augustana and Elmhurst's "B" unit each shot 304 to tie for fourth.
The next competition for coach Paul Del Vecchio's Vikings will be on Monday and Tuesday, October 8 & 9, at the Ashford Fall Invitational. That event will be played at Short Hills Country Club in Silvis, Illinois.
