Volleyball roars past IWU to move to 10-2

Sophomore Dory Dudley contributed nine kills, three digs and three blocks in the Vikings 3-1 victory over Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday, September 19 in the Carver Center. Augustana is now 10-2 overall and 2-0 in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin action.

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois - Augustana dropped the opening set against Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday, September 19 but the Vikings rebounded nicely and picked up a 3-1 victory over the Titans in College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin volleyball action in the Carver Center. Third year head coach Jamie Walters' team lost a tight 26-24 decision in the first game but came back with 27-25; 25-20 and 25-18 wins in sets two through four to pick up the victory. With the win, Augustana is now 10-2 overall and 2-0 in CCIW play while Illinois Wesleyan fell to 7-8 and 0-2.

Freshman outside hitter Martha Murray (Evanston HS, Evanston, Ill.) led the Vikings with 15 kills in 50 attempts while committing just three errors for a .240 hitting percentage. Sophomore teammate Emily Leazer (St. Viator HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) countered Murray's production with 14 kills of her own. Leazer had three errors in 45 attempts and hit .244 for the match. Murray also contributed 15 digs, four assisted blocks, one service ace and one assist while Leazer had 22 digs, two service aces, one setting assist and one solo block.

The Vikings hit .230 as a team for the match with a total of 51 kills and just 13 errors in 165 hitting attempts. Sophomore Dory Dudley (Tremont HS, Tremont, Ill.) had nine kills with one error in 20 attempts for a .400 hitting percentage and she had three digs and three assisted blocks. Sophomore Samantha Kammerman (Sherrard HS, Milan, Ill.) pitched in with eight kills, four assisted blocks, a service ace and a dig.

Freshman setter Jordan Hampel (Hilliard Davidson HS, Hilliard, Ohio) had 44 setting assists, seven digs, three kills and a service aces. Freshman libero Kylie Siebert (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) had 19 digs, four setting assists and two service aces. Senior Sarah Williams (Rockford Lutheran HS, Loves Park, Ill.) had four total blocks (one solo and three assists) and also had a pair of kills.

The Vikings will now play a pair of matches at the Blackburn Triangular on Saturday, September 22 in Carlinville, Ill.
