Vikings move to sixth in regional ranking

Senior Tara Bistry and the Augustana Vikings have moved into sixth place in the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional ranking after a sterling performance at the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships last Friday in Normal, Illinois.

Following a solid outing at the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships on Friday, September 14 in Normal, Illinois, the Augustana women's cross country team moved into the top 10 in the most recent NCAA Division III Midwest Regional ranking. The Vikings of veteran head coach Fred Whiteside check into the second week of the rankings, which are conducted by the US Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association, in sixth place after being unranked in both the pre-season and first poll.

Augustana placed ninth in the Illinois Intercollegiate meet and the Vikings were third amongst NCAA Division III schools in the 30-team field. Augustana senior Sarahbeth Jones (Warren Township HS, Wadsworth, Ill.) led the way with a fifth place individual finish in a school record time of 17:41.

Washington University is the number one ranked in the region with Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Chicago, Illinois Wesleyan and Wisconsin-LaCrosse checking in ahead of Augustana. Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Aurora, North Central and Carthage round out the top 10.

The Vikings will host the Brissman/Lundeen Invitational on Friday, September 21 at Saukie Golf Course.
