Freshman Meredith Chew (Paradise Valley HS, Phoenix, Ariz.) has made quite an impression in her first four matches as the starting goalkeeper for the Augustana women's soccer team. She was rewarded for that effort by being named the "Player of the Week" in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin after helping the Vikings win two matches last weekend in Spokane, Washington.

She was the winning goalkeeper in both matches as Augustana defeated Puget Sound 1-0 on Friday, September 7 and then came back to defeat host Whitworth on Saturday, September 8 by a score of 2-1. She allowed just one goal in nearly 197 minutes (196:57) during the Whitworth Tournament. Chew picked up five saves in the shutout victory over Puget Sound and then picked up six saves in the double overtime win over Whitworth. Her goals-against-average for the weekend was 0.46.

So far this season Chew has been solid in goal for veteran head coach Scott Mejia's 19th ranked Vikings. She has logged 372 minutes and given up three goals while recording 23 saves en route to compiling a 0.72 goals-against-average. She is 4-0-0 as a starter and has one complete game shutout and one combined shutout.

Chew, a pre-dentistry major, is the daughter of Wyck and Deanna Chew of Phoenix, Arizona.
