Vikings announce 2012 volleyball schedule

Rising sophomore Emily Leazer was second on the Vikings in kills (295) and digs (309) and led the team in service aces with 36. She was named the team's "Freshman of the Year".

The Augustana Vikings volleyball team has released its schedule for the 2012 season. Augustana will begin the season by hosting the Augustana Tournament at the Roy J. Carver center on Friday, August 31 and Saturday, September 1. This weekend is Parents Weekend for the volleyball team on the Augustana campus as the Vikings begin the 2012 campaign after two weeks of preseason practice.

The September 4 match against Lincoln Christian will be a night to highlight on the calendar. Not only will Augustana be hosting a its first dual match of the season that night, but the popular 50 cent hot dog and soda promotion from last year will also be taking place. On September 6 the Vikings will be hosting Dubuque in a junior varsity and varsity match.

Augustana’s first College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin opponent will be North Park on September 11 in Chicago, Illinois. On Friday, September 14 and Saturday, September 15 the Vikings will travel to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to participate in the Alverno Tournament.

On Wednesday, September 19 Augustana returns to the Carver Center to take on CCIW rival Illinois Wesleyan. This match will be Faculty/Staff recognition night. All Augustana faculty and staff members are encourage to attend the match where they will be recognized for their hard work and dedication to the school and its students. That evening will also be Whitey’s night. If you are one of the first people to show up to the match and you could go home with a Whitey’s gift certificate.

Before hosting another home match, the Vikings will participate in two tri-matches as well as travelling to a CCIW opponent’s home turf. On September 22, the Augustana will travel to Carlinville, Illinois to participate in one of the two tri-matches. The Vikings will then travel to Elmhurst, Illinois to take on the Elmhurst Bluejays on September 26 before travelling to Chicago, Illinois on September 29 to participate in the second tri-match.

When Augustana does return home on October 2, they will be entertaining CCIW rival North Central. This match will be Cancer Awareness night as players will be donning pink in an effort to raise awareness for breast cancer. Following this match, the Vikings will not be home for three weeks.

During their three week hiatus from the Carver Center, Augustana will travel to Lincoln, Illinois to participate in another tri-match. This one is scheduled for Friday, October 5. On October 10, the Vikings will travel to Decatur, Illinois to take on Millikin. Saturday, October 13 will see Augustana travel to Dubuque, Iowa to participate in their final tri-match of the season. Following that, the Vikings will travel to Monmouth, Illinois to take on the Fighting Scots on October 16. Augustana wraps up its road trip with a visit to Kenosha, Wisconsin to take on the defending CCIW champion Carthage Lady Reds.

October 23 will be the final CCIW match of the season for the Vikings. They will play host to Wheaton with the game schedule to begin at 7:30 pm. This match will be Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) night where members of the Augustana chapter of SAAC will be encouraged to come to the match and be recognized for their hard work.

Friday, October 26 and Saturday, October 27 will be Senior Day as Augustana hosts a tournament featuring a bevy of teams. Prior to their last match of the tournament, the Vikings will recognize and thank senior members of the team for their commitment to the program.

The CCIW Conference Tournament is scheduled for Friday, October 30 with locations and times to be announced.
