2011-12 WOMEN'S GOLF SEASON REVIEW

The Augustana women’s golf team competed in 13 events this season. Coach Ron Standley’s Vikings compiled a head-to-head record of 45-25 and won the Benedictine Invitational, Loras Spring Invite, Augie Invite and Fighting Scots Spring Invitational. They were second at the Augie Quad and third at the Augustana Fall Classic, Fighting Scots Fall Invitational and Clarke Invitational. Augustana completed its fall season with a fourth-place finish at the College Conference of Illinois Wisconsin tournament over a three day stretch from October 6-8 at Emeis Golf Course in Davenport, Iowa. The Vikings shot 1073 in the three day event, trailing Illinois Wesleyan (955), North Central (1013), and Carthage (1019) in the team standings. Elmhurst (1051), Millikin (1061), Wheaton (1067) and North Park (1260) rounded out the CCIW field.
Senior captain Brittany Carr (Lincoln Way East HS, Frankfort, Ill.), who shared team Most Valuable Player honors with junior Morgan Wilkinson (Westmont HS, Westmont, Ill.), led the Vikings with a scoring average of 88.7, which came in 17 rounds of play and 1508 total strokes. She won individual medalist honors with a round of 86 at the Loras Spring Invite on April 1, 2012. Her best round was an 83 on two occasions. Carr led the team with five top-five finishes, and tied for second with six top-ten finishes.
Wilkinson had the second best average for the Vikings as she shot an average of 88.8 on the year. Wilkinson’s lowest round came at the Augie Quad when she shot an 82 for a third place finish. She finished the season by winning individual medalist honors at the Fighting Scots Invitational with a round of 88 on April 27, 2012. Wilkinson led the team with seven top-ten finishes and was second with four top-five finishes.
Junior Megan Vandersee (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.), who along with Wilkinson is a captain-elect for the 2012-13 season, competed in 16 rounds of competition, with an average of 91.1 strokes per round. She tied Carr for low score at the Loras Spring Invite. Her lowest round was an 83 at the Benedictine Invitational in West Chicago, Illinois. She used that round and a second round 86 to finish eighth in the competition which was her other top-five finish this year. She also had six top-ten finishes.
Sophomore Kelly Farina (Normal West HS, Bloomington, Ill.) shot in 14 rounds on the year and had the third best per-round average on the team at 90.2. Farina had one top-five and five top-ten finishes. Her best round, an 82, tied for the best round of any player on the team and came at the Benedictine Invitational. Her best finish was a tie for third at the Mt. Mercy Four Ball.
Sophomore Dena Capitani (Hinsdale Central HS, Hinsdale, Ill.) played in 14 rounds and averaged 91.1 strokes on the year. She equaled the team-best with a low round of 82 at the Benedictine Invitational on September 17, 2011. Her top finish was a tie for fourth at the Fighting Scots Invitational on April 27. She had three other top-ten finishes as well.
Sophomore Jamie Lawrence (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) was selected as the team’s Most Inspirational Player. She played twelve rounds on the season and averaged 92.4 strokes. Her low round this season came on matching 83’s at the Benedictine Invitational, where her two-round total of 166 earned her a tie for third place. She had four top-ten finishes this year and was named CCIW Golfer of the Week on September 21, 2011.
Freshman Kaitlyn Czerwonka (Batavia HS, Batavia, Ill.), who was named the team’s Most Valuable Freshman, competed in eight rounds on the year and compiled a total of 796 stokes for a 99.5 average. She had a low round of 94 at the Benedictine Invitational and her highest finish was 12th at the Mt. Mercy Four Ball.
Sophomore Katelyn Lazar (Williamsville HS, Sherman, Ill.) competed in seven rounds for the Vikings and tied the team low with a round of 82. She averaged a 97.9 on the year and had one top 10 finish and three top 20 finishes.
Sophomores Kelly Olson (Prairie Ridge HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) and Megan Alano (Lockport Township HS, Crest Hill, Ill.) shared Augustana’s Most Improved Player honors this year. They averaged 103.4 and 105.8 strokes per round, respectively.
