Student Athlete Profile
"The goal is the journey." Ted McMillan has adopted this men's track team formula phrase as his own as he believes his success lies in his optimism, his faith, and the support he finds in the Augustana Community.
Chosen as the Most Valuable Performer on the track during his outstanding sophomore season, McMillan earned two national titles at the NCAA Division III championship meet in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, with a height of 6'9" in the high jump and a national best time of :51.50 in the 400 hurdles. But honing his talents has not been easy, especially with the added stress of academic obligations and his additional responsibilities in Young Life, a non-denominational Christian ministry that reaches out to adolescents.
On the track team, McMillan finds that he fares best by independently finding his own way to reach his highest potential and pushing himself to the next goal. As a leader, he hopes to first be guided by the right example before influencing others. For the rest of his career at Augustana, McMillan hopes to expand his role in Young Life as well as continue to focus on performing to the best of his ability in the classroom and on the track.
