2012 Season - Watson named to all-region softball team

Sophomore Krista Watson was selected to the NCAA Division III all-region team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association as a shortstop.

Augustana sophomore shortstop Krista Watson (Coal City HS, Coal City, Ill.) has been named to the NCAA Division III All-Great Lakes Region team by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, it was announced today. Watson, the Vikings' "Offensive MVP" for the second year in a row, was a third team selection and was the only Augustana player selected.

A second team all-conference selection at shortstop after earning first team honors as a freshman in 2011, Watson led the Vikings in batting average (.380), slugging percentage (.570), on-base percentage (.429), runs scored (25), hits (46), doubles (18) and total bases (69). She tied for second with 22 RBI.

She set a school record for most doubles in a single season, breaking the previous record of 17 set by former All-American Lorena Cernetisch in 2006. In just two seasons she has 25 doubles and just two away from entering the Vikings' top 25 in that category. She has compiled a career batting average of .379 (86-227) and as of right now that is the seventh highest in school history.

During her freshman year she hit nine home runs, fourth highest single season mark ever for a Viking and she led the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin in slugging percentage, home runs, and total bases.
