Dr. Darrin Good '87 bids farewell to Augustana
May 14, 2012
The Augustana community will honor, appreciate and celebrate the contributions of Dr. Darrin Good on Wednesday, May 16, from 1 to 3 p.m., in the Hanson Hall of Science atrium.
Raised in Aledo, Ill., Dr. Good is a 1987 Augustana graduate who has served as a faculty member since 1995. He was recently tapped by Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn., to assume the role of associate provost and dean of sciences and education.
At Augustana, Dr. Good served in the biology department and was granted tenure in 2000. He was promoted to full professor in 2009. He has chaired the governing board of the pre-health professions since 2004, and he has served as the director of the Nicaragua medical service learning program since 2006.
Dr. Good served as the division chair of natural sciences from 2007 to 2010, the director of summer academic programs since 2009, and director of service learning and leadership initiatives since 2010.
"While I am personally saddened to see such a valuable colleague leave Augustana, we all recognize that this is a great opportunity for Dr. Good," said Dr. Pareena Lawrence, Augustana dean and chief academic officer. "We know his impact will be felt at Augustana for many years to come, and we see this promotion as a compliment to the quality of the Augustana experience — as a student, faculty member and administrator."
"Gustavus Adolphus is a fantastic college and I am truly honored to have been chosen to be a part of their leadership team," Dr. Good said. "I am excited to work with their dynamic and passionate faculty.
"I hope to utilize all the knowledge and experiences I have gained during my 17 years working at Augustana College. Augie is an amazing place that has given me innumerable opportunities to develop as a professor and a campus leader.
"The two colleges are incredibly similar in almost every way and, in fact, have numerous interconnections that extend back to the founding years of the two schools," Dr. Good added.
In bidding farewell, he said, "My family and I have deep roots at Augustana, as well as in the Quad Cities and Aledo communities. I will dearly miss our many friends, the dedicated faculty and staff and the wonderful students."
