2012 Season - Jones & Beauchamp break school records

Sophomore Liana Beauchamp set a new Augustana school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 156' 1" at the Dr. Keeler Invitational on Thursday, May 10 in Naperville, Illinois.

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - Two Augustana school records fell on Thursday, May 10 at the Dr. Keeler Invitational in Naperville, Illinois. Junior Sarahbeth Jones (Warren Township HS, Wadsworth, Ill.) and sophomore Liana Beauchamp (Genoa-Kingston HS, Kingston, Ill.) both rewrote records that they had previously established earlier this year.

Jones finished second in the 5000 with a time of 16:53.57, shattering her own mark of 17:24.27 set on April 6 at the Wartburg Select Invitational in Waverly, Iowa. When Jones turned in that time on April 6, she took down a school record that had been standing for 29 years. The old mark was 17:28.53 set by Kim Lehmann in 1983.

Beauchamp placed third in the hammer throw with a toss of 156' 1", breaking her own record of 155' 8" set on April 14 at the Luther Norse Relays in Decorah, Iowa. She broke Paula Neiweem's 2009 record of 154' 9".

The meet continued on Friday, May 11 and sophomore Kierra Smith (Creston HS, Creston, Iowa) took seventh in both the 100 hurdles (:15.22) and the 400 hurdles (1:04.71). Samantha Bazely (Rock Island Alleman HS, Coal Valley, Ill.) was seventh in the triple jump with a leap of 34' 8 1/2".
