2012 Season - Jones, Beauchamp win individual CCIW titles

Junior Sarahbeth Jones won the 5000 and took fourth in the 1500 at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championships on Saturday, May 5 in Bloomington, Illinois.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Junior Sarahbeth Jones (Warren Township HS, Wadsworth, Ill.) and sophomore Liana Beauchamp (Genoa-Kingston HS, Kingston, Ill.) each pulled down individual titles at Augustana finished sixth in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin women's track & field championship. The CCIW meet was held on May 4-5 at Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington, Illinois.

Jones won the 5000 with a time of 17:31.05 and also took fourth in the 1500 in 4:35.26. Beauchamp won the hammer throw with a toss of 152' 11" and placed sixth in the shot put with a throw of 38' 7 ½".

Augustana finished sixth in the team standings with 81 points while Illinois Wesleyan won the title with 204. North Central was second with 185 and Carthage took third with 113. Wheaton was fourth with 106 and Millikin grabbed fifth with 100. Elmhurst (16) and North Park (13) finished behind the Vikings.

Sophomore Kierra Smith (Creston HS, Creston, Iowa) was second in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:02.69 and fourth in the 100 hurdles in :15.64.

Sophomore Taelar Hillyer (Rock Island Alleman HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) placed fourth in the pole vault with a clearance of 10' 10" and freshman Astin Moravek (Riverside-Brookfield HS, Riverside, Ill.) was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 16' 11 ¼". She also placed fifth in the triple jump at 35' 3". Sophomore Kate Benge (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) finished fifth in the 800 in 2:17.62 and sophomore Johanna Schnitzler (Downers Grove South HS, Woodridge, Ill.) placed fifth in the heptathlon with 3,591 points.

Freshman Jessica Bacon (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.) was sixth in both the 800 (2:19.62) and 1500 (4:43.75). The 400 relay team of Moravek, freshman Melissa McCurrie (Stagg HS, Palos Park, Ill.), Morgan Gale (Oregon HS, Oregon, Ill.) and Catherine Foreman (St. Joseph-Ogden HS, St. Joseph, Ill.) finished sixth in :51.63. The 1600 relay of Smith, McCurrie, Bacon and Benge placed sixth in 4:04.25.

Junior Tara Bistry (Joliet Catholic HS, Shorewood, Ill.) was seventh in the 10,000 in 40:35.9. Gale took eighth in the pole vault with a clearance of 9' 4 ¼" and Foreman was eighth in the javelin with a toss of 104' 2". Senior Amanda Gruber (Rolling Meadows HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) was eighth in the hammer at 132' 10.
