2012 Season - Beauchamp wins CCIW hammer throw

Sophomore Liana Beauchamp won the hammer throw on the first day of competition in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin women's track & field championship on Friday, May 4 in Bloomington, Illinois.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Sophomore Liana Beauchamp (Genoa-Kingston HS, Kingston, Ill.) won the hammer throw on the first day of competition in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championships on Friday, May 4 in Bloomington, Illinois. Beauchamp recorded a toss of 152' 11" to pick up the victory and help Augustana to fourth place in the team standings.

There were five finals on Friday, the first day of this two-day meet and veteran head coach Fred Whiteside's team picked up points in all five. North Central currently leads the team standings with 64 points while Illinois Wesleyan is second with 57 and Carthage is third with 32. Augustana has 25 points and is actually tied with Wheaton for fourth. Millikin is in sixth with 22 and North Park is seventh with nine. Elmhurst did not score.

Besides Beauchamp's victory in the hammer, her teammate Amber Gruber (Rolling Meadows HS, Arlington Heights, Ill.) placed eighth with a throw of 132' 10".

Sophomore Taelar Hillyer (Rock Island Alleman HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) finished fourth in the pole vault with a leap of 10' 10" and senior Morgan Gale (Oregon HS, Oregon, Ill.) was eighth with a clearance of 9' 4 1/4".

Freshman Astin Moravek (Riverside-Brookfield HS, Riverside, Ill.) was fourth in the long jump with a mark of 16' 11 1/4". Junior Tara Bistry (Joliet Catholic HS, Shorewood, Ill.) took seventh in the 10,000 in 40:35.9 and senior Catherine Foreman (St. Joseph-Ogden HS, St. Joseph, Ill.) placed eighth in the javelin with a heave of 104' 2".
