2011-12 Season - Vikings fall to Wheaton in CCIW's AQ tourney

MOLINE, Ill. - Wheaton ended Augustana's women's tennis season in the semi-final round of the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin's automatic qualifying tournament on Friday, May 4 at the Quad City Tennis Club in Moline, Illinois. The Thunder defeated first year head coach Jon Miedema's Vikings by a score of 8-1.
Augustana had finished fourth in the CCIW Tournament back in October and the Vikings were matched against a Wheaton team that was the league champion and the number one seed. The Vikings lost the regular season dual meet with the Thunder by a score of 9-0 on September 23.
The number two doubles team of junior Krista Panko (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) and senior Brittany Reece (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) picked up the lone victory on Friday. Panko and Reece defeated Marissa Shults and Melanie Milling by a score of 8-1. Reece and Panko finished the year with a record of 17-10.
Sophomore Kim Sawyer (Batavia HS, Batavia, Ill.) dropped a 6-4; 6-3 decision to Elizabeth Worsowicz at number one singles and finished her season with a record of 27-7.
Augustana finished the 2011-12 season with a record of 15-11 and the Vikings won 10 of their final 15 matches of the campaign.
