2011-12 Season - Vikings seventh in CCIW after two rounds

Junior Curtis Lubic shot a 78 Saturday at the CCIW Men's Golf Championship at Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley, Illinois.

COAL VALLEY, Ill. - Junior Curtis Lubic (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) and freshman Max Channon (Wheaton Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) each carded a 78 Saturday as Augustana shot a collective 316 to move into seventh place after two rounds at the CCIW Men's Golf Championship at Oakwood Country Club. Rounds three and four will be played next weekend in Racine, Wisconsin.

Freshman Jake Groselak (Lemont HS, Lemont, Ill.), who led Augustana with a 79 on Friday, shot an 81 on Saturday and is the highest Viking on the leader board. His two-round total of 160 has him tied for 23rd. Lubic (88-78-166) and teammate Jeff Paustian (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) (87-79-166) are tied for 34th. Channon (89-78-167) sits one stroke back in a tie for 38th. Freshmen Grant Murphy (Dunlap HS, Peoria, Ill.) and Josh Kukla (Zion-Benton HS, Winthrop Harbor, Ill.) round out the Augustana contingent. Murphy (87-81-168) is tied for 40th and Kukla (86-83-169) sits in 42nd place.

Augustana's team score of 316 Saturday was the fifth best in the eight team field. Heading into next weekend, the Vikings' total of 655 puts them three strokes ahead of eighth-place Elmhurst (336-322-658) and 13 strokes behind sixth-place North Central (318-324-642). Illinois Wesleyan (308-292-600) leads after two rounds, followed by Carthage (305-300-605), Millikin (306-302-608), Wheaton (309-310-619) and North Park (322-317-639).

Millikin's Wes Hillen (69-71-140) is the individual leader by eight strokes after the first weekend.

The CCIW Championship concludes with rounds three and four on Friday and Saturday, May 4-5 at Meadowbrook Country Club in Racine, Wisconsin.
