Events
Campus Ministries is a continual source of inspiration and partnership for your intellectual and spiritual journey. We want to let you know about several opportunities that you can get involved with Campus Ministries.
First Year Students Camp out
All first-year students are invited to participate in our annual overnight camp out. We camp along the Mississippi River at Loud Thunder Forest Preserve (about a half hour from Augie). This is the perfect opportunity to meet some new friends, play, sing, talk, and eat together in a beautiful off campus setting. Many Seniors remember our camp out as the day they met their best friend in college. You do not want to miss out on this one!
Heartways Retreat
Heartways is the Augustana College Campus Ministries retreat offered once per term. Members of the Augustana community (students, faculty, staff) spend the weekend at the retreat center of the beautiful Sinsinawa Mound Dominican Convent in Sinsinawa, Wisconsin. Those attending the retreat spend their time interacting in group activities, walking in the woods, watching the sun rise, eating the incredible meals, exploring the convent, reading in peace, and most importantly, enjoying large amounts of free time. Past participants in Heartways have called it "peaceful, a new way to rejuvenate yourself," and "a time for spiritual growth and relaxation." The best way to learn more about Heartways is to sign up. It's a great and fulfilling experience for anyone of any faith.
Upcoming Retreat Dates:
April 11-13, '08; Sept. 26-28, '08; Jan. 23-25, '09; April 17-19, '09
Spring Break Service Trip
Every year Campus Ministries sponsors a service trip in which students have the opportunity to do volunteer projects. For the last two years, we've been visiting service projects in Mississippi dedicated to the effort of rebuilding the Gulf Coast after the devastation left by the hurricane season of 2005. There's still work to be done so we are returning on 2008 to help those who are struggling to put their lives back together. Students have called this trip "the highlight" of their time in Augustana.
