2011-12 Season - Groselak leads Vikings at IWU Invitational

Freshman Jake Groselak had the best score for the Vikings at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational on Friday, April 6 and Saturday, April 7. He shot a two-day total of 155 to finish tied for 27th place.

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Freshman Jake Groselak (Lemont HS, Lemont, Ill.) led the Augustana effort at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational on Friday, April 6 and Saturday, April 7 at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Illinois. He turned in a two-day total of 155 to finish in a tie for 27th place individually and was the top Viking in the 24-team field.

Groselak shot 78 on the first day and came back to record a 77 on the second day. This is the second tournament in a row where he has been the top Augustana finisher. Last weekend, at the Prairie Fire Invitational, he shot a two-day score of 160 (82+78) and finished in a tie for 14th place.

As a team, the Vikings placed 16th in the IWU Invitational with a two-day total of 652 (329+323). St. Francis and Nebraska Wesleyan tied for the low score with identical scores of 602. Both teams had identical rounds of 305 and 297. Carthage was third with a score of 603 (315+288) and the host Titans placed fourth with a 604 (307+297). The final spot in the top five was Wheaton with a 609 (306+303).

Wes Hillen of Millikin won the meet individually with a score of 143 (71+72).

Following Groselak, the next Augustana finisher was freshman Grant Murphy (Dunlap HS, Peoria, Ill.). Murphy had a 161 with rounds of 81 and 80. Freshman Max Channon (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) shot 167 (81+86) and junior Jeff Paustian (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) recorded a 169 (89+80). Freshman Josh Kukla (Zion-Benton HS, Winthrop Harbor, Ill.) had a 184 (95+89).

The Vikings will host the Augustana Invitational on Friday, April 13 and Saturday, April 14 at Pinnacle Country Club in Milan, Illinois.
