2011-12 Season - Men's Golf takes sixth at Prairie Fire Invitational

Freshman Jake Groselak placed 14th at the Prairie Fire Invitational on March 30-31 to lead the Vikings to a sixth place finish in the 13-team event.

PEORIA, Ill. - Under the direction of first year head coach Paul Del Vecchio, the Augustana men's golf team opened the spring portion of the 2011-12 season. The Vikings placed sixth in the 13-team Prairie Fire Classic, which was hosted by Knox at Weaver Ridge Golf Course in Peoria, Illinois on Friday, March 30 and Saturday, March 31.

Dubuque won the event with a two-day total of 628 (316 + 312) while Augustana recorded a final score of 657 (331 + 326). Monmouth was second with 629 (321 + 308) with St. Norbert in third at 637 (313 + 324). Monmouth's B team took fourth with a 647 (324 + 323) and North Central was just two strokes ahead of Augustana in fifth at 655 (323 + 333).

Trailing the Vikings in the team standings were Benedictine-Springfield with a 664 (322 + 342), Grinnell 670 (331 + 339), Iowa Wesleyan 675 (348 + 327), Knox 688 (342 + 346), Illinois College 708 (359 + 349), Cornell 723 (359 + 364) and Grinnell B 726 (361 + 365).

Freshman Jake Groselak (Lemont HS, Lemont, Ill.) was the top Augustana finisher with a two-day total of 160. He shot 82 the first day and came back with a 78 to finish in 14th place in the tournament. Blake Mitchell of Iowa Wesleyan was the individual winner with a score of 153 (83 + 70).

Freshman Grant Murphy (Dunlap HS, Peoria, Ill.) was the second man for the Vikings with a 164 (79 + 85) that placed him 20th. Junior Curtis Lubic (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) shot 165 (85 + 80) and freshman Max Channon (Wheaton Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) had a 168 (85 + 83). Freshman Josh Kukla (Zion-Benton HS, Winthrop Harbor, Ill.) shot 180 (87 + 83).

Augustana's next competition will be April 6-7 at the Illinois Wesleyan Invitational at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Illinois.
