2011-12 Season - Murphy leads Vikings at UMHB Invitational

Freshman Grant Murphy was the top individual place finisher for the Vikings at the Mary Hardin-Baylor Spring Invitational on February 27-28 in Temple, Texas.

TEMPLE, Texas - The Augustana men's golf team  finished fourth in the Mary Hardin-Baylor  Spring Invitational on February 27-28 in Temple, Texas. The meet was part of the spring-break trip taken by the Vikings and first year head coach Paul DelVecchio.

Mary Hardin-Baylor, the 25th ranked team in NCAA Division III, won the two-day tournament with a score of 619 (305-314) at the par 72 Wildflower Country Club in Temple, Texas. The Mary Hardin-Baylor Gold team was second at 629 (307+322) and Southwestern University took third at 631 (320+311). Augustana's fourth place score was 685 (342+343) and the Augustana Gold team was fifth with a 752 (370+382).

Stayton Lindeman and Bryce Myburgh of Mary Hardin-Baylor tied for the top spot in the individual portion of the tournament with identical scores of 153. Lindeman shot 76+77 while Mybaugh went 74+79.

Augustana's top finisher was freshman Grant Murphy (Dunlap HS, Peoria, Ill.) with a 17th place finish. Murphy shot 169 (84+85). Freshman Jake Groselak (Lemont HS, Lemont, Ill.) took 20th with a score of 170 (83+87). Juniors Curtis Lubic (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) and Jeff Paustian (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) tied for 23rd with scores of 175. Lubic shot 87 and 88 while Paustian went 92 and 83. Freshman Max Channon (Wheaton-Warrenville South HS, Wheaton, Ill.) had a 182 (88+94) and was tied for 26th.

Freshman Josh Kukla (Zion-Benton HS, Winthrop Harbor, Ill.) led the Augustana Gold team with a score of 181 (87+94) and was 25th.
