2012 Season - Hillyer and Lundine win at Jim Green Invite

Sophomore Taelar Hillyer won the pole vault at the Jim Green Invitational on Saturday, February 4 in Jacksonville, Illinois with a clearance of 3.29 meters.

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - Individual victories by sophomore Taelar Hillyer (Alleman Catholic HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) and freshman Lizzie Lundine (Willowbrook HS, Villa Park, Ill.) along with a win in the 1600 sprint medley helped propel Augustana at the Jim Green Invitational on Saturday, February 4 in Jacksonville, Illinois. The Vikings scored 69 points to trail Monmouth (105) and Truman State (104) in the 19-team meet.

 

Veteran head coach Fred Whiteside's team just nipped Central Methodist (68) for third while Ashford (56) was fifth and St. Ambrose (49) was sixth. Missouri Baptist (47), Illinois College (42), Greenville (34) and Lincoln (30) rounded out the top 10. The rest of the field consisted of McKendree (21), Maryville (13), Principia (11), Hannibal-LaGrange and Knox (8), Westminster and Fontbonne (6), Webster (5) and Culver-Stockton (2).

 

Hillyer won the pole vault with a clearance of 3.29 meters while Lundine won the 5000 in 19:40.11. The sprint medley relay team consisting of seniors Morgan Gale (Oregon HS, Oregon, Ill.) and Catherine Foreman (St. Joseph-Ogden HS, St. Joseph, Ill.), junior Jennifer Prazak (Naperville North HS, Naperville, Ill.) and sophomore Kate Benge (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) won with a time of 4:27.92.

 

Freshman Stephanie Burbidge (Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.) placed second in the 5000 in 19:46.29, giving the Vikings a one-two finish in that event. Benge took second in the 800 in 2:23.78 while Prazak placed fourth in the same event with a time of 2:25.99.

 

The distance medley team of freshman Becca Sund (Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.), sophomore Johanna Schnitzler (Downers Grove South HS, Woodridge, Ill.), freshman Lorraine Stamberger (La Moille HS, La Moille, Ill.) and senior Sarah Johnson (Grayslake North HS, Lake Villa, Ill.) took fourth in 13:19.24 and the 1600 relay unit of sophomore Kierra Smith (Creston HS, Creston, Iowa), freshman Jessica Bacon (Rock Island HS, Rock Island, Ill.), Prazak and Benge was fourth in 4:12.63.

 

Bacon finished sixth in the mile with a time of 5:19.67. Sophomore Liana Beauchamp (Genoa-Kingston HS, Kingston, Ill.) took eighth in the 20 pound weight throw with a toss of 14.27 meters. Schnitzler was eighth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.49 meters.

 

The 800 relay of Gale, Foreman, Schnitzler and freshman Laura Polizzi (Crystal Lake South HS, Crystal Lake, Ill.) was eighth with a time of 1:55.63.

 

Augustana, which is ranked 10th in the latest NCAA Division III national dual meet power rankings, will host its own invitational on Saturday, February 11 in the PepsiCo Center.
