2011-12 Season - Holt wins three & Greaves one at Monmouth Quad

MONMOUTH, Ill. - Freshman Aaron Holt (Mount Vernon HS, Mount Vernon, Ill.) won three individual events to lead Augustana to a pair of victories at the Monmouth Quadrangular on Saturday, February 4 in Monmouth, Illinois. The Vikings defeated Monmouth 154-87 and NCAA Division I Valparaiso 138-115 but lost to NCAA Division I Western Illinois 146-112. Augustana wrapped up the dual meet portion of the 2011-12 schedule with a 4-3 record.
Holt was tremendous on Saturday as he won the 100 backstroke (:53.79), the 100 butterfly (:54.06) and the 200 individual medley (2:01.66). He also led off the 400 medley relay, which placed fifth in 3:56.90. He was joined on that unit by sophomore Ryan Chaney (Pleasant Valley HS, Bettendorf, Iowa), freshman Alex Putz (Oak Forest HS, Oak Forest, Ill.) and freshman Timothy Michaels (Pella HS, Pella, Iowa).
The Vikings also got a superb performance from junior Chris Greaves (Morris HS, Morris, Ill.). Greaves won the 1000 freestyle in 10:40.34, took second in the 200 backstroke in 2:05.40 and placed third in the 200 butterfly in 2:06.38. He also led off the winning 400 freestyle relay that clocked a time of 3:18.81. He was joined on that relay by senior Charlie Vogt (Oak Park-River Forest HS, Oak Park, Ill.), freshman Michael Duy (Marmion Academy, Aurora, Ill.) and sophomore Daniel Hinck (Loves Park Harlem HS, Loves Park, Ill.).
Hinck placed second in the 200 freestyle in 1:47.46 and second in the 500 freestyle in 4:59.53. Duy took fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:51.43) and fifth in the 100 butterfly (:58.73). Vogt was fourth in the 50 freestyle with a time of :23.14 and fifth in the 200 freestyle in 1:52.00.
Sophomore Austin Zarbuck (Urbana HS, Urbana, Ill.) finished second behind Greaves in the 1000 with a time of 10:43.70 and was fourth in the 500 freestyle in 5:09.44. Chaney took fourth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:29.03.
Augustana will compete in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin championship over a three-day period from Thursday, February 16 through Saturday, February 18.
