2011-12 Season - 2012 starts with Vikings ranked third

Freshman point guard Danielius Jurgutis has been a pleasant addition for the third ranked Vikings this year. He has played in all 11 games and is averaging 4.6 points and 1.4 rebounds per game and is third on the team in assists with 17.

The first poll of 2012 is out and Augustana remains in third place in the NCAA Division III men’s basketball poll. The D3hoops.com national ranking shows the Vikings with 563 points and solidly entrenched in third place. Head coach Grey Giovanine’s team is currently 10-1 overall and will open the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin portion of the schedule tonight (January 4) in Decatur, Illinois against Millikin.

Middlebury (9-0) is the number one ranked team in the nation with 623 points and 23 first place votes. Virginia Wesleyan (9-1) is second with 571 points and one first place vote. Trailing Augustana is Massachusetts Institute of Technology (12-0) with 537 points and the remaining first place vote while Emory (10-0) rounds out the top five with 516 points.
