College to discuss plans for student center

December  12, 2011

Students and faculty and staff will hear about plans for the proposed Center for Student Life this week.

The Augustana Student Government Association will hold an informational session and forum at 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, in the auditorium of the Olin Center. There will be a question-and-answer session after the presentation. For more information, contact John Bagnuolo, SGA sophomore senator.

A meeting for faculty and staff will be held from 3:30-5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec 13, at the Wilson Center. There will be a project overview and presentation of the latest floor plans. A panel representing current and future CSL residents will share their thoughts on the design of the center. A question-and-answer session and discussion of next steps in the project also are planned.

In the summer of 2010, President Steve Bahls appointed a task force to explore and develop a proposal for a center on campus that connects the library to facilities for dining and student activities. The task force also explored whether a center that combines and centralizes important aspects of student learning and everyday life — the library, activity space and dining — would be welcome and successful.
