2011-12 Season - Six event winners key team title at IWU Invite

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - With contributions coming from every event, Augustana picked up an impressive win at the six-team Illinois Wesleyan Invitational on Saturday, November 19 in Bloomington, Illinois at the Shirk Center. Head coach Scott Johannsen’s team scored 142 points to nudge past the host Titans, who took second with 136 points.
The Vikings won six events on the afternoon, four individual swimming events, one diving and one relay. There was just one double winner for Augustana and that was freshman Aaron Holt (Mount Vernon HS, Mount Vernon, Ill.) in the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly. There were 12 scored events and in 10 of those the Vikings took either first or second. In six of the eight individual swimming events Augustana had at least four point scorers.
Holt was outstanding as he won the 200 individual medley in 2:01.04 and the 100 butterfly in :54.58. He also placed second in the 100 backstroke in :54.48. For good measure he swam the leadoff leg on the 200 medley relay team that placed second in 1:42.79. He was joined on the team by sophomore Jasen Hengst (Bettendorf HS, Bettendorf, Iowa), senior Joey Waldorf (Bloomington HS, Bloomington, Ill.) and senior Charlie Vogt (Oak Park-River Forest HS, Oak Park, Ill.).
Junior Chris Greaves (Morris HS, Morris, Ill.) won the 200 freestyle in 1:51.62 was fourth in the 100 butterfly in :56.89 and fifth in the 100 backstroke in :58.00. He handled the third leg on the winning 200 freestyle relay team that turned in a time of 1:36.59. He was joined by freshman Michael Duy (Marmion Academy, Aurora, Ill.), Vogt and Hinck.
Hinck won the 50 freestyle in :23.19, placed second in the 500 freestyle in 5:12.33 and fourth in the 200 freestyle in 1:53.40.
Freshman Josh Wielenga (The School of Environmental Study, Apple Valley, Minn.) won the three meter diving with 196.60 points and was second off the one meter board with 181.80 points.
Duy took third in the 200 freestyle (1:52.27), third in the 100 freestyle (:51.17) and fifth in the 50 freestyle (:24.26). Vogt was third in the 50 freestyle in :23.57 and sixth in the 100 freestyle in :52.28. Sophomore Austin Zarbuck (Urbana HS, Urbana, Ill.) placed third in the 500 freestyle (5:13.37) and seventh in the 200 freestyle (1:55.46). Hengst finished sixth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:15.59.
Waldorf was sixth in the 100 butterfly (1:00.43) and seventh in the 100 backstroke (1:07.56). Freshman Timothy Michaels (Pella Community HS, Pella, Iowa) finished sixth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:06.36. Freshman Kyle Miller (Riverside-Brookfield HS, Riverside, Ill.) was seventh in the 200 individual medley (2:15.59) and the 100 breaststroke (1:07.64). Waldorf took seventh in the 100 backstroke in 1:07.56 and freshman Alexander Putz (Oak Forest HS, Oak Forest, Ill.) was eighth in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.74.
