2011 Season - Augustana third at CCIW Championships

Junior Jonathan Smith recorded a 10th place finish in the 2011 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin men's cross country championship Saturday in Chicago. Smith helped lead Augustana to a third place finish in the meet.

CHICAGO, Ill. - Junior Jonathan Smith (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) recorded a 10th place finish in the 2011 College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin men's cross country championship on Saturday, October 29. Smith helped lead Augustana to a third place finish in the meet, which was held at Montrose Harbor in Chicago, Illinois.

 Smith covered the 8000 meter course in a time of 26:04 and recorded his second consecutive 10th place finish in the CCIW meet, repeating his performance of a year ago. Augustana, ranked 19th in NCAA Division III, scored 76 points as a team to place third in the standings.

 North Central, the number one ranked team in the nation, won with just 15 points while Wheaton, ranked fifth in NCAA Division III, was second with 53 points. Following Augustana was Illinois Wesleyan in fourth with 120 points. Elmhurst (138), Carthage (158), Millikin (214) and North Park (250) rounded out the field.

 Matt Perez of North Central won the individual race with a time of 25:16 and his teammate, Neal Klein, took second in 25:24.

 Behind Smith, senior Billy TenBusch (Prairie Ridge HS, Cary, Ill.) finished 13th in 26:10 while junior Justin Smith (Fenton HS, Bensenville, Ill.) was 14th in 26:11. Junior Nathan Smith (Fenton HS, Bensenville, Ill.) was 18th in 26:23. Senior Mike Tisza (Hersey HS, Prospect Heights, Ill.) took 21st in 26:38 while junior Brian Pollastrini (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) was 22nd in 26:59. Freshman Nick Gornick (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) was 30th in 27:36.

 Augustana will be off this week before hosting the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional on Saturday, October 29 at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Illinois.
