2011 Season - Late IWU goal dooms Vikings

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.-Illinois Wesleyan's Adam Flaugher scored a goal in the 87th minute Saturday, giving the Titans a 2-1 win over Augustana in Bloomington, Illinois. The loss drops the Vikings to 11-6-0 on the year and 1-4-0 in the CCIW. Illinois Wesleyan improves to 8-6-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the league.
Flaugher's goal came on a header off a Danny Kenny corner kick. The Titans first goal also came off a Kenny corner when Jared Casey scored in the 70th minute. Augustana had taken a 1-0 in the 60th minute when junior Nick Wolfe (Neuqua Valley HS, Naperville, Ill.) scored his third goal of the season unassisted.
Illinois Wesleyan outshot the Vikings 13-9 in the match. Each side had six shots on goal. The hosts also had a 4-1 edge in corners and parlayed a pair of them into scores. Sophomore Tyler Cowherd (Bettendorf HS, Bettendorf, Iowa) had four saves in goal for Augustana while his Titan Counterpart, Tim Hegwood, recorded five.
The Vikings, ranked sixth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Central Region, will try and get back on the winning track when they face North Central in a 5:00 p.m. match on Wednesday, October 26 in Naperville, Illinois.
