2011 Season - Vikings 19th in latest poll

Augustana dropped seven spots in the NCAA Division III national cross country rankings it was announced today. Head coach Paul Olsen's team garnered 134 points and fell from 12th to 19th place in the poll released today by the United States Track & Field/ Cross Country Association.

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois – Augustana dropped seven spots in the NCAA Division III national cross country rankings it was announced today. The Vikings finished 10th at a wind-swept Wisconsin-Oshkosh invitational in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on Saturday, October 15. Head coach Paul Olsen's team garnered 134 points and fell from 12th to 19th place in the poll released today by the United States Track & Field/ Cross Country Association.  

Despite the fall in the rankings, the Vikings have found themselves in the top 20 every week so far this season. After starting the season in the 20th position, the Vikings moved to 12th for two weeks, went to 11th following a dominating win at the 33-team Brissman-Lundeen Invitational on Friday, September 23. Two weeks ago they jumped up to 10th before falling to 12th on October 12.  

The national poll is filled with teams hailing from the Viking's Midwest Region. Nine teams from the region cracked the top 20 and three of the top five spots are held by Midwest Region teams, with Augustana's College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin rival North Central holding onto the number one spot it has held the entire season. Also in the top five from the region are Washington (3rd) and Augustana's CCIW opponent Wheaton (5th). Wisconsin-Oshkosh (8th), Chicago (10th), Wisconsin-LaCrosse (16th), Wisconsin-Platteville (17th), Augustana (19th), and Wisconsin-Stevens Point (20th) round out the list of teams from the region in the top 20.  

Augustana is idle this weekend as they prepare for the CCIW Championships which will take place in Chicago, Illinois on Saturday, October 29.
