Augustana women’s golf team finishes fourth at CCIW tournament to close the fall season
The Augustana women’s golf team completed its season with a fourth place finish at the College Conference of Illinois Wisconsin tournament over a three day stretch from October 6-8 at Emeis Golf Course in Davenport, Iowa. The Vikings of veteran head coach Ron Standley shot 1073 in the three day event, trailing Illinois Wesleyan (955), North Central (1013), and Carthage (1019) in the team standings. Elmhurst (1051), Millikin (1061), Wheaton (1067) and North Park (1260) rounded out the CCIW field.
Senior captain Brittany Carr (Lincoln Way East HS, Frankfort, Ill.) led the Vikings with a scoring average of 88.1 which is two strokes higher than her 90.1 average from last season. The average came in 12 rounds of play and 1057 total strokes. Carr’s best finish came in two day Mt. Mercy four ball event where she shot an 83 and 89 to earn a second place finish. Carr also led the team with two top five finishes, three top 10 finishes, and 6 top 20 finishes.
Junior Morgan Wilkinson (Westmont HS, Westmont, Ill.) had the second best average for the Vikings as she shot an average of 88.6 on the year which was three strokes higher than her 91.6 average from last fall. Wilkinson’s lowest round came at the Augie quad when she shot an 82 for a third place finish. Wilkinson also had four top 10 finishes and seven top 20 finishes on the season.
Junior Megan Vandersee (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.) also shot in 12 rounds of competition shooting 834 strokes and an average of 91.3. Her lowest round came with an 83 at the Benedictine Invitational in West Chicago, Illinois. Vandersee used that round and a second round 86 to finish eighth in the competition which was one of her two top 10 finishes on the year. She also had five top 20 finishes.
Sophomore Kelly Farina (Normal West HS, Bloomington, Ill.) shot in 11 rounds on the year and had the third best average on the team as she shot an average of 88.6. Farina had one top five finish, four top 10 finishes and six top 20 finishes. Her best round, an 82, tied for the best round of any player on the team and came at the Benedictine Invitational.
Sophomore Dena Capitani (Hinsdale Central HS, Hinsdale, Ill.) played in 11 rounds as well and averaged a 90.7 on the year which was over six points higher than her 97 average from last year. She also had a low round of 82 which came at the Benedictine Invitational on September 17. Capitani had two top 10 finishes on the year and five top 20 finishes.
Sophomore Jamie Lawrence (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) shot in 10 of competition on the year and finished with a total of 906 strokes. She had a low of 83 on the year to earn one top five finish, two top 10 finishes, and three top 20 finishes. Her low of 83 came at the Benedictine Invitational where she placed third. Lawrence also had an average of 90.6 on the year which was fourth best on the team.
Freshman Megan Scott (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.) shot in nine rounds and averaged a 103.6 over the fall season and a total of 932 strokes. Her lowest round was a 92 in the second round of the Benedictine Invitational. Scott also had two top 20 finishes on the year.
Freshman Kaitlyn Czerwonka (Batavia HS, Batavia, Ill.) shot in eight rounds on the year and compiled a total of 796 stokes. She had a low of 94 on the year and two top 20 finishes with an average of 99.5 on the year.
Sophomore Katelyn Lazar (Williamsville HS, Sherman, Ill.) competed in seven rounds for the Vikings and tied the team low with a low round of 82. She averaged a 97.9 on the year and had one top 10 finish and three top 20 finishes.
Head coach Ron Standley’s Vikings competed in eight events in the fall and compiled six top five finishes. They came in first out of eight in the Benedictine Invitational and second of four in the Augustana Quadrangular. They also came in third out of seventh in the Clarke Invitational, third out of 15 in the Augustana Fall classic and third of nine in the Monmouth Invitational.
