2011-12 Season - Murphy, Lubic lead way at Elmhurst

Junior Curtis Lubic shot 78 and tied for 14th place at the Elmhurst Invitational.

OAK BROOK, Ill. - Freshman Grant Murphy (Dunlap HS, Peoria, Ill.) and junior Curtis Lubic (Kaneland HS, Sugar Grove, Ill.) led the way for the Augustana men’s golf team at the Elmhurst Invitational on Sunday, October 9. The Vikings were tied for sixth in the nine team event, which was held at Oak Brook Country Club in Oak Brook, Illinois.

Murphy and Lubic shot identical 78s over the par 72, 6,541 yard layout. Murphy went 39 and 39 for his 78 while Lubic shot a 37 on the front and 41 on the back. Murphy and Lubic tied for 14th place in the individual standings.

Junior Jeff Paustian (Geneva HS, Geneva, Ill.) recorded an 81 (43+38) with freshman Jake Groselak (Lemont HS, Lemont, Ill.) shooting an 84 (40+44). Freshman Josh Kukla (Zion-Benton HS, Winthrop Harbor, Ill.) had an 87 (41-46).

Benedictine-Springfield won the team title with a 302 while Dubuque was second with a 309. Carthage took third (317) and Elmhurst and Lewis tied for fourth as each had scores of 318. Augustana and North Park tied for sixth at 321 The Lewis “B” team was eighth at 327 and the Elmhurst “B” squad was ninth at 331.

Augustana will be in action again on October 17-18 at the Ashford Fall Invitational at Short Hills Country Club in East Moline, Illinois.
