2011 Season - Augustana sweeps Concordia

Senior Brianna Skeens led the Vikings with 10 kills Wednesday as they defeated Concordia-Chicago in three games.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill.-Down 16-11 in the first game, Augustana rallied to pull out a 25-23 win and went on to a three games to none victory over Concordia-Chicago Wednesday night at Carver Center. The Vikings even their record at 3-3 on the year while the Cougars drop to 1-3.

 After the game one comeback, Augustana trailed 3-1 in the second game but scored the game's next seven points behind the serving of sophomore defensive specialist Katrina Colclasure (Tri-Valley HS, Bloomington, Ill.). The Vikings parlayed that 8-3 lead into a 25-19 win to go up 2-0.

 In the third game, the Vikings got another 25-19 win to complete the sweep.

 Senior Brianna Skeens (Vernon Hills HS, Libertyville, Ill.) led Augustana with 10 kills and now has a team-high 52 on the season. Freshman Emily Leazer (St. Viator HS, Mt. Prospect, Ill.) and sophomore Morgan Stittleburg (Black River Falls HS, Black River Falls, Wis.) each had seven kills and Leazer added 10 digs.

 Junior Kelsey Mikula (Coal City HS, Coal City, Ill.) racked up 30 assists in the match and now has 178 on the year-an average of 8.09 per game. Colclasure had a team-high 21 digs and four assists. Junior Sarah Williams (Rockford Lutheran HS, Loves Park, Ill.) had six kills and freshman Samantha Kammerman (Sherrard HS, Milan, Ill.) was credited with five kills and eight digs.

 After six matches at home, coach Jamie Walters' Vikings hit the road for Memphis, Tennessee and a date in the Rhodes College Tournament. Augustana opens play on Friday, September 9 at 2:00 p.m. against the University of the South. At 6:00 p.m. the Vikings face Hendrix and then continue play on Saturday, September 10, with matches against the host and Millsaps.
