2011 Season - Vikings drop first match at Thorson-Lucken

Megan Mummert and the Augustana Vikings dropped a tough 1-0 decision to Wartburg in the first-ever varsity competition played on Thorson-Lucken Field on Thursday, September 1.

A goal in the 84th minute spoiled the opening athletic contest at Augustana’s brand-new Thorson-Lucken Field as the Vikings lost to Wartburg by a score of 1-0. It was the season opening match for both teams.

Chelsea Frye scored the game’s only goal at the 83:38 mark off an assist by Anna Aquino. That goal stood up despite three shots by Augustana in the final five minutes of the contest.

In a fairly evenly played match, Wartburg held a 15-14 advantage in shots with 11 of those coming on goal. The Vikings had seven of their 14 shots on goal with senior Caitlin Winkelman (St. Charles North HS, St. Charles, Ill.) leading the way with four. Defender Megan Mummert (Crawfordsville HS, Crawfordsville, Ill.) had two shots in the game.

Senior Kayla Radloff (West Chicago HS, West Chicago, Ill.) stopped 10 shots by the Knights in a losing cause.
Augustana will be back in action on Sunday, September 4 at 1:00 p.m. at Thorson-Lucken Field.
