Senior Matt Pelton garners MVP honor

Senior captain Matt Pelton, who finished his Augustana career having played more games in a Viking uniform than all but two players, has been named this year’s team MVP. Pelton was second on the team in scoring at 12.3 points per game and assists with 61 and led in three-pointers (45) and free throw percentage (.839).

Crawford finishes 4-0 as Vikings split matches

Tricia Crawford went 4-0 to lead the way for the Augustana women’s tennis team on Sunday, March 14 against Cornell and Graceland in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Crawford won a pair of matches at No. 1 doubles and also earned two victories at No. 3 singles. The Blue & Gold edged Cornell 5-4 before falling 6-3 to Graceland. The Vikings are 4-2 this spring and 10-11 overall.

Even though Grinnell snapped a four match winning streak on Saturday, March 13 in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, the Augustana men's tennis team showed some resiliency with a tough victory over Cornell. The Vikings had won four in a row heading into the battle with Grinnell but came out on the short end of a 7-2 score to the 15th ranked team in the NCAA Midwest Region. However, head coach Adam Strand's unit was tough when it had to be in a 5-4 victory over Cornell.

Augustana junior Patrick Zeunik earned All-American honors in the triple jump on Saturday, March 13. Zeunik, the Vikings' school record holder and the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin champion this year, placed seventh in his specialty.

Softball jumps to eighth in NCAA Division III poll

From unranked to eighth in the nation. That is the story for the 2010 Augustana softball team under the direction of veteran head coach Kris Kistler. The Vikings entered the 2010 campaign with little fanfare and have been picked for fourth in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin. Now, after one week of competition, Kistler’s bunch finds itself ranked eighth in NCAA Division III according to the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll, which was released on Wednesday, March 10.
