Service Learning in Jamaica (Winter 2012-2013)

TRAVEL WITH A PURPOSE IN JAMAICA.

This program ran in the Winter of 2012-2013. 

We anticipate it will run again in the Winter of 2014-2015.

Get into the field and learn the meaning of service learning.  This program combines a course on campus during the 2012-2013 Winter Term with service learning projects in the famous Alpha Schools of central Kingston, Jamaica during Christmas Recess to create a unique Learning Community.  Work with Music and Education faculty in the classroom and on-site in Kingston, Jamaica.  This is a hands-on learning experience which combines two different disciplines and offers students the chance to learn and teach alongside young Jamaicans.

Program Dates:  December 2012-February 2013  (In Jamaica, January 2013)

2012-2013 Program Cost:  $3,000

Cost includes:  Airfare, Room & Board in Jamaica, Ground Transportation, Excursions, Insurance

Not included: Discretionary spending

Courses included:  This program is an experiential Learning Community (LC) composed of two Education courses (262 and 263) carrying Human Values and Existence (PH) perspectives and the Global Diversity (G) suffix.  Students will be able to take other courses during Winter Term as all travel is over the Christmas Recess.

This program is open only to full-time Augustana students.  Funds from Augie Choice are available for this program to any student with Junior status (60 credits or more) at the time of the program departure.
