2011 Season - 1600 relay qualifies, Ries sets school record

Katie Ries set a new school record in the 3000 steeplechase at the Dr. Keeler Invitational.

The 1600 meter relay team went under the NCAA Division III qualifying standard and senior Katie Ries (Iowa City Regina HS, Iowa City, Iowa) set a new school record in the 3000 steeplechase to highlight the Augustana effort at the Dr. Keeler Invitational on Friday, May 13 in Naperville, Illinois.

The foursome of senior Brittney Bennett (Annawan HS, Annawan, Ill.), senior Amy Walsh (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.), freshman Kierra Smith (Creston HS, Creston, Ill.) and senior Hannah Hottle (Monmouth-Roseville HS, Monmouth, Ill.) ran a season’s best of 3:54.45 and placed sixth in the 1600 relay. Ries ran 11:20.97 in the 3000 meter steeplechase and broke the previous school record of 11:30.95 set in 2010.

In other action at the Dr. Keeler meet, Walsh took seventh in the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:05.17 and Bennett was seventh in the 400 in :57.84.
