2011 Season - Vikings jump to 18th in poll

Four individual champions, five NCAA qualifiers, and a slew of other strong performances at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championship meet propelled the Augustana women’s track and field team into 18th in the NCAA Division III Women’s Track & Field poll. Augustana currently has 169.94 points, up from 158.42 points last week.

Four individual champions, five NCAA qualifiers, and a slew of other strong performances at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin championship meet propelled the Augustana women’s track and field team into 18th in the NCAA Division III Women’s Track & Field poll. Augustana currently has 169.94 points, up from 158.42 points last week.  The Vikings moved from 25th in the poll just before the CCIW meet. The ranking is sponsored by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Association and it encompasses the top two performances by each team in every event.

This week the Wartburg jumped into the top spot with 205.57 points.  Wisconsin-Oshkosh fell to second but increased their point total to 199.18.  Williams fell to the third spot with 198.34 points while North Central jumped up to the fourth spot with 195.27 points.  Ithaca rounds out the top five with 191.63 points.

So far this season the Vikings have competed in a total of nine meets, including last weekend when head coach Fred Whiteside’s team hosted the CCIW championship meet. Augustana has a dual meet victory over St. Ambrose on March 19 and were second in the Augustana Invitational on April 15. The Vikings were fifth at the Lee Calhoun Invitational on April 9 and ninth at the Wartburg Select Invitational on April 2. The other meets (NIU Invite on April 23 and the Drake Relays and Loras Invitational April 29-30) were non-scoring events.

The Vikings will travel to North Central to compete in the Dr. Keeler Invitational on Thursday, May 12 and Friday, May 13.
