2010-11 Season - Vandersee named MVP for women's golf

Megan Vandersee was named MVP for the Augustana women's golf team. She led the squad with an 89.4 scoring average and had the team's lowest round with a 79.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The Augustana women’s golf team announced its award winners and sophomore Megan Vandersee (Sterling HS, Sterling, Ill.) was named “Most Valuable Player” for the 2010-11 season.  Senior Courtney VandeWiele (Alleman Catholic HS, Rock Island, Ill.) and freshman Katelyn Lazar (Williamsville HS, Sherman, Ill.) shared “Most Improved” honors while freshman Jamie Lawrence (Moline HS, Moline, Ill.) and sophomore Morgan Wilkinson (Westmont HS, Westmont, Ill.) each earned “Most Inspirational.”  Lawrence was also named “Most Valuable Freshman” along with Kelly Farina (Normal West HS, Bloomington, Ill.).  Junior Brittany Carr (Lincoln Way East HS, Frankfort, Ill.) was elected captain for the 2011-12 season.

Vandersee led the team with an 89.4 scoring average with a low round of 79.  She had four top-five finishes, which was the highest on the team.  Vandersee tied for medalist honors at the St. Ambrose Fighting Bee Classic and also placed second at the Augie Quad and the Clarke Invitational.

VandeWiele improved her stroke average by over 12 strokes per round from last season.  She had a low round of 98 at the St. Ambrose Fighting Bee Classic.  Lazar had a 102.6 scoring average and a low round of 95 at the Augie Quad.  She tied for ninth place at the Fighting Scots Spring Invitational.

Lawrence had a 95.1 scoring average with a low round of 85.  She tied for third at the Fighting Scots Spring Invitational and also led Augustana by tying for 12th in an 87 player field at the Monmouth Invitational.  Wilkinson had a low round of 84 and a scoring average of 93.9.  She tied for fourth place at the Augie Quad, tied for ninth at the Fighting Scots Spring Invitational, and took 10th at UW-Platteville Fall Invite.

Farina was third on the squad with a 92.7 scoring average.  She had a low round of 87.  Her best finish was a tie for fifth place at the Fighting Scots Spring Invitational.  Farina also finished in a tie for sixth at the North Central Cardinal Classic and in a tie for seventh at the Augie Invite.  Carr led the team with six finishes in the top 10 and had a 91.7 scoring average, second on the team.  Her best finish was sixth at the Augie Invite and her low round was an 84.

The Vikings of head coach Ron Standley competed in 13 events this past season.  Augustana won the Augie Quad and the Fighting Scots Spring Invitational.  The Blue & Gold earned runner-up honors at the St. Ambrose Fighting Bee Classic and the UW-Platteville Fall Invite.  The team finished seventh at the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin Championships.
