For library materials whose value exceeds the minimum replacement cost, the costs may be higher and are set at the discretion of library personnel.

Upon receipt, the copy will be subject to approval by a librarian before being accepted and added to the collection. Contact the Circulation Department before attempting to replace an item.

If items are found to be billed in error, the replacement cost and processing fees will be waived.

  • Current picture ID, e.g., driver's license
  • Verification of address, e.g., recent letter or bill
  • Unexpired library card from one of the following counties: Rock Island, Whiteside, Henry (Illinois), Scott, or Muscatine (Iowa)
  • Photo ID will be required each time a public patron wishes to check out.

NOTE: Applicants must be at least 13 years of age. These cards are for personal use only. Each member of a family who wishes to check out should apply for their own card. For more information, contact Christine Aden, Head of Circulation, at 309-794-7819.

Public Patron Computer Use and Printing Policy

Library computers are to be used primarily for academic research by Augustana students, faculty, and staff.

Persons not associated with Augustana College may use library computers on the second floor of the library for academic research.  Visitors must sign in at the Circulation Desk to be logged onto a computer (valid photo identification may be required).  The guest log-in does not have access to Microsoft Office programs.

Public patron computer access will be limited to one hour each day. Patrons will see periodic warnings as the hour of access comes to a close, and will be logged off automatically.  Log-ins will be prohibited after 9:00 p.m. Sunday-Thursday.

Persons not associated with Augustana College will be charged $0.10/page for printing.  Printed pages may be picked up at the Circulation Desk, at which time payment will be requested.

In order to prioritize access to library resources for our students, faculty, and staff, non-Augustana patrons may be limited in their access or refused access during times of heavy use. Such occasions may include, but are not limited to, class visits to the library for research instruction, the 10th week of each term, and final exam periods.

Viewing pornography on these computers violates Augustana's policy on sexual harassment by creating a hostile environment. Patrons using the computers for this purpose may be asked to leave the library immediately.

Child Disruptions Policy

Although we welcome all members of the community to use our facility for study and research purposes, the Thomas Tredway Library will not tolerate disruptions from children in the library. If children are in the library and are creating a disruption:
  • A supervisor or librarian will ask the parent to please have the children stop doing whatever is creating the disruption and remind them that the library is a place for quiet study and research.
  • In the absence of a parent, the children themselves will be told.
  • If the disruption continues, campus security will be called.

Policy for Reserving the Fourth Floor Library Computer Lab

The primary purpose of the library computer lab is to serve the academic needs of students at Augustana by providing an open computer lab and a place for library instruction.

The lab will be open for student use when no other activity is scheduled. This use preserves the presence of a computer lab on the library’s fourth floor.

Library instruction sessions are the main scheduled activity that will take place in the lab, and have priority in its use.

If no library instruction classes are scheduled, other departments may schedule the lab for a session that requires participants to use computers. Staff of these departments should contact the library secretary to reserve the room. Other than for library instruction, the lab will rarely be reserved more than one week in advance. Due to heavy use by students during 8th, 9th, 10th, and Finals week, the lab will not be reserved for other use at those times.

All non-library requests to reserve the computer lab must be submitted to the library secretary. Term-long classes and regularly-occurring meetings will not be scheduled in the fourth floor lab.

Exceptions to this policy may be made during term breaks and in the summer months.

Policy for Group Study Rooms

The primary purpose of the library’s study rooms is to serve the academic needs of students at Augustana by providing space for them to study in a quiet space, meet with others to discuss group projects and work in conjunction with one another in an interactive setting. Study rooms are available for check-out only by members of the Augustana community.

The study rooms are available on a first come, first served basis. Study rooms on the third floor can comfortably accommodate 1-4 people. Study rooms on the 2nd and 4th floors (“large group study rooms”) are intended for groups of 4-8 people.

Study rooms may not be reserved in advance and are not intended for use as classrooms or meetings on a regular basis. On rare occasions, small group library instruction sessions may be held in a large group study room.

Exceptions to this policy may be made during term breaks and in the summer months.
