2011 Season - Top ranked Vikings increase lead in NCAA poll

Junior Greg Davis has been the top hurdler for the number one ranked Vikings all season long. He is shown here competing in the 400 intermediate hurdles at the Meet of Champions on April 16 at Paul V. Olsen Track.

Bad weather couldn’t stop the Augustana Vikings men’s track team from increasing their lead in the NCAA Division III dual meet poll. After taking control of the top spot last week, the Vikings had great performances at the Dubuque Open last Friday despite the cold and rain. The Vikings now have 214.10 points, strengthening their grip on first place. This poll is conducted by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Whitworth stayed in second with 210.30 points and North Central, a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin rival, is third with 208.45 points. Williams (201.27) jumped to fourth, while Nebraska Wesleyan also moved up, now in fifth with 199.37 points. Massachusetts Institute of Technology is currently sixth, followed by UW-Whitewater (198.05), Bates (197.97), Redlands (192.63) and Claremont McKenna-Harvey Mudd-Scripps (192.57) rounding out the top ten.

No team scores were kept at the Dubuque Open, but the Vikings won 11 events and had place winners in every event. Before that, the Blue & Gold had competed in five meets. The Vikings won their dual meet with St. Ambrose by a score of 154-54 on March 19 in Rock Island, Illinois Iowa and finished first in the Viking Olympics on March 26. On Saturday, April 2, Augustana finished second at the Wartburg Select meet in Waverly, Iowa.
