2011 Season - Hottle wins 800 at Lee Calhoun Invitational

Senior Hannah Hottle won the 800 at the Lee Calhoun Invitational on Saturday, April 9 with a time of 2:14.04. That is under the NCAA Division III qualifying standard and is the fifth fastest 800 in Augustana history.

MACOMB, Ill. - Senior Hannah Hottle (Monmouth-Roseville HS, Monmouth, Ill.) continued her tremendous success during the 2011 outdoor track & field season. She won the 800 at the Lee Calhoun Invitational on Saturday, April 9 in Macomb, Illinois.

Hottle ripped off a career best of 2:14.04 in winning the race, besting Jilana Kerkman of Illinois State, who was second with a time of 2:14.88. Hottle’s time was under the NCAA Division III national qualifying standard and it was the fifth fastest time in Augustana history.

Augustana placed fifth in the 12-team invitational with 69 points. Illinois State won the meet with 210 points while Wisconsin-Milwaukee was second with 177 and Marquette placed third with 106. Western Illinois was just in front of the Vikings with 69.50. Monmouth (62), St. Ambrose (47), Ashford (34.50), Bradley (30.50), Lincoln (30.50), Millikin (19) and McKendree (18) rounded out the field. Augustana was the top non-scholarship team at the meet.

Hottle was the lone winner for the Vikings and the 800 was not her only race. She ran the second leg of the third place 1600 relay that turned in a time of 3:57.60. She was joined on that team by senior Brittney Bennett (Annawan HS, Annawan, Ill.), senior Amy Walsh (Cary-Grove HS, Cary, Ill.) and freshman Kierra Smith (Creston HS, Creston, Iowa). Hottle also anchored the sprint medley team to a third place time of 4:10.28 and that team was (in order) Bennett, Smith, Walsh and Hottle.

Walsh took fifth in the 100 hurdles (:15.63) and the 400 hurdles (1:06.16). Smith placed sixth in the 100 hurdles (:15.63) and eighth in the 400 hurdles (1:06.85).

Freshman Emma Gandgeorge (Sycamore HS, Sycamore, Ill.) took third in the 10,000 with a time of 43:59.80 and freshman Kristen Whiteside (Zion-Benton HS, Winthrop Harbor, Ill.) finished fourth in 46:32.15. Senior Katie Ries (Iowa City Regina HS, Iowa City, Iowa) placed third in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 12:22.38. Senior Anita Maurer (Downers Grove North HS, Downers Grove, Ill.) was fourth (13:00.84) and freshman Amanda Pease (United Township HS, East Moline, Ill.) took fifth (13:17.58).

Sophomore Theresa Coverick (Stagg HS, Palos Park, Ill.) finished eighth in the 3000 with a time of 11:03.22 and freshman Johanna Schnitzler (Downers Grove South HS, Woodridge, Ill.) was eighth in the 100 hurdles (:16.48).

The 800 relay team of freshman Karly Losch (Pittsfield HS, Pittsfield, Ill.), junior Morgan Gale (Oregon HS, Oregon, Ill.), sophomore Katie Dinkel (Maharashi HS, Fairfield, Iowa) and sophomore Valerie Bach (Palatine HS, Palatine, Ill.) took fifth in 1:52.46. The 3200 relay of sophomore Jennifer Prazak (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.), junior Angela Pisani (York HS, Elmhurst, Ill.), freshman Katie Kornaus (Portage HS, Portage, Wis.) and freshman Kelsey Stockert (Peoria Notre Dame HS, Mapleton, Ill.) placed sixth in 10:06.54.
